North Carolina Astrophotography on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Join landscape photographer Tommy White as we explore the night sky high up on the Blue Ridge. A trip up to Roan Mountain will be on tap for us as we traverse the Grassy knolls of the Roan Highlands at 6000’. This workshop will dive into the darkest of skies, where peppered lights fill the layers of ridges below and we capture those amazing images of astrophotography in North Carolina.

This astrophotography class and workshop will tackle the unique art of light painting and strobes and when to use them. We will also be diving into Time Lapse Photography and Star Trails, the proper settings, and many advanced options on how to take your night photography to the next level. This NC Astrophotography workshop will highlight advanced astrophotography techniques to elevate those star images with a focus on photographing the milky way.

We’ll also take a look at a Star Tracker and image stacking, and how it can benefit your Star images with virtually no noise. Even when shot above 10,000 ISO!

A two-day adventure shooting in the wee hours based in Boone, NC.  Students in this Astrophotography Workshop will become night owls for a few days as we explore hidden beauty in the night sky over western north carolina.

Our adventures will take us to the Blue Ridge Parkway to photograph the night sky, including the Milky Way, constellations, nebula, star reflections, and star trails.  We will visit some of my favorite areas including The Blue Ridge Parkway, Roan Mountain, Linville Gorge and Pisgah National Forest and local state parks. Our locations are all selected to avoid as much light pollution as possible enabling clear viewing of the milky way. There will be a variety of foreground subjects and will discover the magic of light painting.

Enrollment is limited to 8, so you will receive individual attention to address your particular needs in this astrophotography workshop. You’ll learn essential skills throughout the weekend that will enhance your image making in the future.

A huge part of astrophotography and milky way photography is the post-processing that really brings out those stars but maintains those dark dark skies. We will meet in the conference room on Saturday to go through those post-processing techniques, including star stacking and techniques to aid with sharpening and noise reduction. Don’t miss this astrophotography class.

Cancellation Policy:  If you need to cancel your booking, the Deposit is non-refundable on all Seasonal and Group Photography Workshops.  If the cancellation is less than 90 days, you will receive a full refund minus the deposit and 15% admin fee, when your spot is filled. If the cancellation is more than 90 days, you will receive a full refund when your spot is filled, or, you may move to another available workshop (minus a 15% admin fee) in the current calendar year. The remaining balance on the new Workshop is due upon transfer.
